Unheard Music Concepts
Welcome to our featured group, Unheard Music Concepts. They are a trio from the Netherlands consisting of Han Post, Marc Verhoeven and Daniel Talma. Mark on piano studied classic and modern composition; Han on sax and clarinet, started to play in a band club, switched to east European music and ended up in jazz; and Daniel on the upright bass is an experimental pop minimalist and sound engineer.
They played together for many years in several groups (the Urge, Two Gentlemen, Masters & Johnson, Dutch Distress) and decided to go back to what they think is the core of all music: communication.
They meet and play. They don’t agree on chords, tempo or anything else. It is all about listening to and interacting with each other. Everything is recorded on a simple multi-track recorder, afterwards the best pieces are selected and mixed. Four albums have been released; Harbour (2015), Industry (2016) Home (2016), Slow (2017), Lasso of Time (2018) and Lost on the Moon (2019).
Daniel Talma told Jazz Radio International, “When we play live we play a selection of the tracks we released, but for us the method is the other way round; because we improvised the original tracks, we need to first figure out what we approximately did, and then try to play that again. This means that even when we play live we do not know exactly how it will go, and every live performance is therefor different, which also keeps it interesting for ourselves.” This explains why the music sounds improvised and exciting.
Their music is available under the Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) but they have added the non existing code ‘NAD’ which stands for ‘No Audio Derivatives’.
As one of our Featured Groups on Jazz Radio International, many of their excellent tracks can be heard on our station 24/7. Listen to our live stream, our Nobex smart phone app or the Zeno Radio phone app or Player below.
